Best Last Minute Valentine’s Day Ideas

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and perhaps you got lost in the regular bustle of daily life and you forgot, but trust me, it is still not too late to make that night special. You don’t need to take time out of your busy week to make reservations at an expensive restaurant and lavish your partner with shiny gifts. You certainly have missed the deadline for planning a getaway. Maybe you just decided that you were going to celebrate last minute. I’ve got the remedy for your stress.

Valentine’s Day at our house has turned into a pink-cupcake family festival filled with paper crafts and cut-out hearts. I love it. The Whole Assed Hubby and I have done our obligatory “take the kids to grandma’s” over the weekend and got some alone time. We haven’t made any Valentine’s Day plans that are over the top because we are headed out of town in a week to Las Vegas and are pinching our pennies until then. But that doesn’t mean that our Valentine’s Day won’t be fun. I have a 3-step plan of making sure it’s super awesome and I’m willing to share, for all you last minute scramblers out there, I hope you like cheesy movies!

  1. Popcorn

If they could, my children would live exclusively off Zebra Popcorn and Ramen Noodles. Laugh if you must, but you can buy a big ol’ bag of pop corn and not have to splurge on dinner is what I’m telling you! That make popcorn a pretty important part of your last minute Valentine’s Day plan. Plus side of Valentine’s Day being mid-week is that it’s a school night, so once you pout the kiddo’s to bed (early?) you can enjoy what I’ve got planned next.

2. Cheesy Movies

We stream everything we watch on our Amazon Fire Stick. We have yet to have an instance where we couldn’t find anything to watch. Do you want to know how many times I’ve seen Tremors?! It happens to be the Whole Assed Hubby’s favorite movie. I text him this past week to ask for his input on the best “romantic movies” for Valentine’s Day and had to immediately follow up with “NOT TREMORS” – to which he replied “Tremors 2”.

Tremors is not romantic, but it is one of our favorites. So instead of bringing you a list of mushy crap, I’m giving you our top 3 80’s movies to watch with your significant other this Valentine’s Day.
  • Urban Cowboy Because if you haven’t started a movie night with  John Travolta, then you haven’t started a movie night! We have dedicated entire evenings just to watchign movies with John Travolta because sometimes we pick an actor and just go with it. My least favorite is Nicholas Cage night. If you haven’t seen Urban Cowboy, you must. You are going to love Sissy and Bud and their perpetually unhealthy relationship.
  • Top Gun Equal Parts romance and bad-assery.  Just kidding, it’s like 50% romance and 150% bad-assery! I love Top Gun because of Highway to the Danger Zone, my lover for which is probably exacerbated by the FX Comedy Archer, but whatever the reason maybe, this damn movie is the shit!  Young Tom Cruise in this movie wil show you where his signature cocky attitude came from, yes he gets the girl and there is super cool action. Very romantic 😉
  • Smoky and the Bandit This movie is sorta romantic I guess. Burt Reynolds and Sally Fields do have a thing. But mostly there is a loose plot and hella cool car-driving action. We spent a romantic weekend away from the kiddos, and it snowed, so we stayed in our hotel and watched Smoky and the Bandit. Whole Assed Hubby had never seen it, so it was my turn to show off my appreciation for bad 80’s movies! Good times. Now it’s a go-to when there isn’t shit on TV.

3. Board Games

Nothing really gets the romantic juices flowing like obliterating your partner at a friendly game of Chutes and Ladders! Its our favorite kid-friendly board game. If you’re playing without the kids, however, grab Cards Against Humanity and let your horrible self loose.

It’s a pretty simple equation to create the best Valentine’s Day at the very last minute. Do the things that you really love with the ones that you really love. An out of the blue bad-movie marathon and card game are the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day in my humble opinion. So enjoy the day of love!
